Contest winning songs and costumes

I've entered a contest and I'm driving myself crazy with the analysis of what makes a song crowd-pleasing, entertaining, winning...

Can anybody help me with tips on good songs or costumes for this pursuit? Thank you so much!!

    I have found that contests aren't for suble "good" singing.. rather "all out" stuff that shows off your vocal skills. Stage presence and theatrics do a lot too. Somehow R&B tends do dominate. I do show tunes. They work well for me.
