Hi

Has anyone out there ever made their own karaoke discs or are you interested in helping to figure this out with me?

I HAVE recently been successful in creating a dozen reasonable karaoke files. (Tell ya how inna minnt.)
and now I need to have someone help me with how in the $#@&*? am I supposed to be able to put these onto a disc that is playable at the karaoke bar down the street?

Do I need to buy special CD+G discs?
Do I need a special CD+G recoriding drive?
WHERE DO I GET THESE?

I am sooooooo frustrated.

OK.
The "good news" is that the program I used is called Tricerasoft MBryo CD_G Creator - it cost $50.00 for online download. It's fast, easy and simple. You can get a free download limited-function version at www.tricerasoft.com - keep looking - i'll post the direct link if need be.

The BAD NEWS: pardon my impatience - but the technical help at tricerasoft SUCKS! It is NON-EXISTANT! Baicly because the guy who keeps responding doesnt understand english and doesnt know what customer support is. I already have intervention pending from PayPal. (Early October - if we dont resolve it then theyll step in.)

There are a couple glitchy things in the program that can easily be avoided or worked with, and it's good - but doesnt have ALL the bells and whistles, which I think is made up in the fact that it IS easy to use, cheap, and fast download.

I'll be happy to discuss any and all aspects of this further for anyone interested - trade karaoke files, etc...
"How To Sing Karaoke Well"

I am not kidding - there is an article in this month's Allure magazine called "How To Sing Karaoke Well" written by LA Event Planner - Audrey Bernstein. The accompanying picture is of Molly Sims and her genetically blessed girlfriends - most likely singing Girls Just Wanna Have Fun or Love Shack since the odds of four or more girls at karaoke doing a different song is about a million to one.

the tips include...

"Plan ahead - on the way there think of two or three songs to perform. Not only will this psych you up; it makes looking through the songbook less overwhelming"

"Remember that Tune - Select songs you already know. Anything that requires rapping is risky. Classic rock and 80's songs are perfect. Duets and group songs are great if you're shy. And skip the ballads" Then she name drops some more famous people she's had at events.

"Get On The List - Give your choices to the DJ as soon as possible, tipping him $1 per song - otherwise, you'll have to sit through endless renditions of "Material Girl" until it's your turn" (ahem, a good KJ will NOT put up several different people singing the same song in one night - it makes for a boring night for everyone, especially the KJ and bar staff since we can't go outside for a smoke.)

"Get a Grip - Don't hold the microphone the way a metal dude would, choking up on the top. Instead, sing directly into it... Look out into the crowd. And stay away from the speakers to avoid eardrum shattering feedback"

"Rock and Roll With It - Try out your club moves, throw in some playacting and air guitar, sing the finale on your knees. the more you get into it, the better you'll look. If you give it your all, the audience will give it back to you time a hundred"

How about some tips from some real KJs and Karaoke, um, fans.

It's the real live FINAL karaoke night at Annie's Cocktail Lounge this Friday, December 30th. Since the New Year's Eve Party is non-karaoke, Annie thought it would be a good idea to give you guys a proper send off to thank you for all the fun years and songs.

I think we should give HER a proper karaoke send-off, tho. Sing those songs from your early days. Take a crack at the song you'd been itching to sing for years. If you have an Annie's Cocktail Lounge t-shirt wear it. There will be lots of photos taken.

Bring your camera. Bring some friends. Bring a memory. Most importantly, bring your fantastic self.

I'll be the chick in the reconstructed, bedazzled Annie's t-shirt working the mic.

xoxo
e

ps - DON'T FORGET the NEW YEARS EVE blowout at Annie's Cocktail Lounge. One last party before she shuts the doors at 15 Boardman Place forever...

SATURDAY starting at the Seven Bamboo bar in Japantown at 8pm (162
know!
Also, a huge thanks also to Aaron & Omar (Leisure) and Glenn (Amnesia & Lingba Lounge karaoke) for entrusting me with these gigs. The preparation in getting this together is truly a labor of love for me and I truly appreciate you all giving me the opportunity to do something that I enjoy doing...being loud and obnoxious on a microphone. Can't wait until we do this all again June 12 at Lingba! :)
http://www.fcps.k12.va.us/WakefieldForestES/Graphics/spidermonkey2.jpg

Oh, don't worry...when I speak of drinking "spider monkeys", I don't mean that you would actually be taking one of the cute creatures pictured in the link above, putting it into a blender, starting at chop, boosting it up to puree, then finishing it off for 30 seconds at liquefy, and pouring it into chilled martini glass. No, sick people! What kind of inhumane fuckhead do you think I am? What I'm talking about is the SPIDER MONKEY, a fruity tiki-inspired cocktail from everyone's favorite Portrero Hill district tiki bar (is there another one?), THE LINGBA LOUNGE. I've had the drink twice now, and it is simply fabulous. It even comes with a little plastic monkey who's prehensile tail allows it to hang onto the side of your glass while you're sipping away at it.

Oh, and in case the drinks don't interest you and you don't get enough of me being the most crass, drunk, and beligerant emcee since Chuck Barris on the old Gong Show at Leisure, I'll be hosting karaoke there from 9PM to 12 Midnight. Hope to see you all there. And PLEASE, if, once I'm done there, someone could wheel me off to some other party happening around town, I would forever be appreciative.

The Lingba Lounge is at 1498 18th Street at Connecticut in the heart of the Portrero Hill district. Karaoke goes on from 9PM-12AM.

So, BE THERE OR BE SQUARE Saturday and Sunday night...actually don't be there just to prevent from being square, be there BECAUSE I NEED YOUR TIPS!

I went to a bar/grill/dive in the Attleboro, MA area and sang "When I'm Back on My Feet Again" (Michael Bolton), "Mother Mother" (Tracy Bonham), and "Wind of Change" (Scorpions).

I am 28 but the friend I took with me was under 21 so they kicked us out my our third. We both don't drink anyway. I would pay admission for alcohol, smoke-free karaoke. I thought about starting a night like that in Boston, MA or Providence, RI.

I was briefly in the SF Bay area and went twice to a night like this in Sacramento; however, there were too many little kids at the event...
